The New York Jets are said to have interest in Justin Fields this offseason while being set to move on from Aaron Rodgers, which could ruin the Pittsburgh Steelers‘ plans.
The Steelers have been on record stating they’d like to bring back one of their two quarterbacks from last season’s roster in Fields or Russell Wilson. However, it appears their preference is Fields, who is likely to have interest with the Jets said to be among the favorites.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler has reported that the Jets could be eyeing Fields, as well as the Las Vegas Raiders potentially looking to bring him in their new-look offensive scheme under Chip Kelly. Free agency begins in just eight days, with Fields likely to be snapped up quickly and potentially forcing the Steelers to pivot to Wilson if they lose out on bringing him back.
Wilson is unlikely to have interest from the Raiders while not being a fit for their offense, with the New York Giants perhaps considering a move for him. Both Fields and Wilson impressed at times for Pittsburgh and led the team to winning records, with the Steelers being 4-2 with Fields and 6-5 with Wilson under center.
Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford is the first domino to fall having verbally agreed to stay and work on a new contract, only leaving a few options for teams to consider. Wilson and Fields will be two of the biggest names available as a free agent, with Sam Darnold likely to be given the biggest contract after his sensational season with the Minnesota Vikings.
The Steelers are highly unlikely to be able to move up the draft board to select one of Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders, but they could look to the likes of Jaxson Dart or Quinn Ewers on day two as competition for their starting quarterback in 2025.

Pittsburgh reportedly had interest in trading for Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence last month, but the quarterback quickly poured cold water on that by stating he would not waive his no-trade clause to facilitate a move.
The Jets announced they were moving on from Rodgers last month. New York’s new head coach Aaron Glenn and GM Darren Mougey said in a statement: “Last week we met with Aaron and shared that our intention was to move in a different direction at quarterback.
“It was important to have this discussion now to provide clarity and enable each of us the proper time to plan for our respective futures. We want to thank him for the leadership, passion, and dedication he brought to the organization and wish him success moving forward.”
