Harrison Ford has canceled his Oscars appearance after he was diagnosed with shingles. The 82-year-old actor was slated to present during Sunday night’s ceremony at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.
Despite his diagnosis, the Hollywood legend is said to be ‘doing okay and is resting.’ Entertainment Weekly reported that the Star Wars actor was dropping out of his presenting role after learning of his illness the morning before the big night.
On Wednesday, he was announced as one of the presenters at the 97th annual Academy Awards alongside fellow actors Robert Downey, Jr., Gal Gadot, Emma Stone, Andrew Garfield, Margaret Qualley, Rachel Zegler and Zoe Saldaña.
Shingles is a viral infection similar to chickenpox that causes symptoms like a painful itchy rash that typically appears on the side of the body or face accompanied by fever and chills.
In August of last year, the prolific actor was spotted at Disney’s D3 Expo where he was honored with the Disney Legend award. Fans expressed concerned for his health as the octogenarian appeared to struggle while signing his name above his handprints on his plaque.
Regardless of concerns, the actor has no intention to retire any time soon. He recently told Entertainment Weekly that he will continue working until people “forget” his name.
The Indiana Jones star made an appearance at the 2025 Screen Actors Guild Awards last week, where he jokingly interrupted his Shrinking co-star Jessica Williams’ acceptance speech by eating a potato chip.
Currently, he is starring on the Yellowstone prequel series 1923 and Apple TV+ series Shrinking, for which he was nominated for Best Male Actor in a Comedy Series at the 2025 SAG awards as well as for Ensemble in a Comedy Series.
He also recently appeared in an ad for Jeep that aired during the Super Bowl.
No word on who will replace Harrison as a presenter tomorrow night as fans and celebs wish the beloved actor a speedy recovery. The 97th Academy Awards air live on ABC Sunday, March 2, at 7 p.m. ET.
